How to pronounce SAP?

You generally encounter this question when you're new to the SAP industry. Whether you've joined the SAP world as an Engineer/Graduate aspiring to become an SAP Consultant or whether you are the end user using the SAP software deployed by a SAP Partner, this question is definitely on.

While there is no law to enforce a particular way to pronounce SAP, most senior consultants spell to pronounce it as S-A-P (all three letter separately). However, the way to pronounce it differs based on geographies. British almost always pronounce it 'sap' while a lot of Americans spell it out. Indians use both ways. Some say that since 'sap' is a slang for a fool, it should be spelled out as 'S-A-P'.

So, there is no correct or incorrect way of pronouncing SAP. As long as it makes sense to the other person when you say it, it is fine. For the sake of clarity and distinction, it is preferred to spell it as 'S-A-P'.
